Michigan Vacation

We went to Michigan to vacation with my family for a week. Mom and Dad rented a house in Grand Haven, Michigan so we could all stay together.

Of course, we had to drive through Ann Arbor, Michigan to get there....and, of course, that meant we had to stop to see "The Big House" with our own eyes.

It was Coast Guard festival week in Grand Haven, which meant more activities to choose from. We went to kids' day in the park where they had all kinds of games and activities including face painting and a clown making balloon animals. We toured boats and saw a water skiing show.

The kids had lots of fun at the beach. The lake was literally right across the street from our house, but the beach where we spent most of our time, was a bout a mile down the road. The weather was beautiful! Although the water was a bit chilly for swimming, some of us toughed it out to go boogie boarding! There was also lots of time spent playing in the sand, flying kites, and just relaxing while listening to the waves.

Another highlight for the kids was blueberry picking. I have never had blueberries that tasted so good! The kids enjoyed picking them the first day, under duress....and then asked to go another day to pick more! We had blueberries in salads, blueberries in cobblers and cakes, and blueberries all by themselves! They were delicious!

Kevin & Mike (with Margaret and I tagging along to be the golf cart chauffeurs) went golfing two mornings at Grand Haven golf course. Along the course, there was a house with OSU corn-hole boards and a flag....it amazed me so much that I just HAD to take pictures! The guys had a lot of fun playing at the game of golf and we all had fun being together, just the four of us, for a few hours.

The kids got to go golfing too....I think a total of 3 trips to the miniature golf course! They had lots of fun playing putt-putt, but I thought it looked more like pin-ball!

One of the mornings while were out golfing, the kids and grandparents went and climbed a sand dune....200 and some-odd steps they climbed (Elisabeth could tell you exactly!).

The house had a campfire spot, so Kevin made a fire and we made s'mores! We enjoyed some beautiful sunsets on the beach and on the pier (only half a mile from our house).

All in all, we had a great time and spent some quality family time together - all 10 of us!
